About The Place

Located at 229 E Broad St, Athens, GA 30608, The Place operates as a bbq serving Athens in Georgia. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Because this group is broad, judging a listing on freshness, turnover and how consistent recent reviews are tends to work better than judging by decor or price range alone. Most kitchens in Athens will adjust a dish for common dietary needs like gluten-free or vegetarian if you ask when ordering. Hours vary widely: diners and fast-food chains often stay open late or around the clock, while bakeries and cafes tend to open early and close mid-afternoon. Catering and food delivery businesses in Georgia usually require advance notice, from a day for a small order up to a week or more for a large event, so it is worth contacting them early.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. Athens is in Georgia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Traffic in Athens peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Dinner before a concert can be a gamble, but The Place delivered from start to finish. Avery did a fantastic job taking care of us and keeping everything on schedule so we could make it to the show without feeling rushed. She also made sure we secured one of the last two slices of their white chocolate cheesecake, which turned out to be the perfect ending to the meal. We started with an Old Fashioned made with Old Forester and the house specialty Peanuts & Coke cocktail. At $12 and $11, respectively, both drinks were excellent values and a great way to kick off the evening. The fried vegetable appetizer was outstanding, featuring perfectly cooked green tomatoes, pickles, and okra served with ranch. Honestly, this plate alone is worth stopping in for. For the main course, I went with the Guinness and garlic-marinated hanger steak. It arrived perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavor. The accompanying Brussels sprouts were excellent, and the mashed potatoes topped with caramelized onions tasted homemadeβ€”not something scooped from a box. Dessert was the white chocolate cheesecake, and it absolutely stole the show. Rich, creamy, and decadent, it put an exclamation point on a

For starters, not sure how this place has so many good reviews. Went upstairs to where the full bar and additional seating is. Only a few people up there because it was a little before 3:00 PM. The bartender/server was "am b" per the check. She looked like she was mad about being there at first interaction. We got the chicken sandwich adding bacon and pimento cheese and a starter of fried veggies. Fried veggies were soggy, soaked with grease, beyond what normal fried veggies should have. Couldn't bite through extremely tough fried okra (first time I experienced that) when coating fell off. And was supposed to include fried green tomatoes but could only find 1/2 of one. Chicken was way over dry with totally non-ripe hard red tomato with no taste. Pimento cheese made bun very soggy (something wasn't right). am b brought our check without asking if we wanted another drink. Not sure what the problem was, but we were kind and respectful the entire time there. We did see a smile 3/4 of the way through our visit when a couple friends of am b walked in. Rarely do I give a review like this, but this was definitely a one and done, last time going to "The Place".

We had a great meal here! The food was delicious and not overpriced. The service was good and friendly. We waited 35 minutes but we were able to leave and come back so that we didn’t have to wait there. They sent us a message when our table was ready. I would recommend to anyone who’s in Athens.

I got the tuna melt which was nice, but could have been creamier. I made up for it by adding the loaded potato salad in between, which made the sandwiches yummier. The bread was nice and toasty though! Loaded potato salad is a MUST HAVE, the flavor was peak. The fried vegetables was pretty good too, but the ranch sells it for me (yummm). My server, Ava, is a sweetheart! Super nice and split the check for us without us asking, something you would not see happen in NY. During our visit, a medical emergency occurred, but the staff were all quick to act, so nothing bad happened. Super tragic for the family (well wishes!!) but upside, the staff are quick on their feet if anything ever happens😭 We came pretty late, and took our time to eat, and the staff did not kick us out even when it reached 10pm! So sweet of them, which is why I gave them a 5 stars even though food wasn’t a 10/10.

We were a party of 4. The place was not busy but our waitress took almost 15 minutes to come take our order. The food came out after 25 mins and everything was terrible. The fryer oil is very stale and you can see it on my onion rings in the pic. It tasted as bad as it looked. The pork chop I got was very overcooked. The burgers my inlaws got was bone dry. The fries were terrible. The best dish I got was the "Fresh fruit" side.
